Electronic top sides have proven to be very reliable. When you are having a problem with the spa, 95% of the time it is not the controller. Please consider this when ordering. Unless the controller is clearly damaged you most likely need to replace the circuit board or the whole pack to solve the problem.
- Turn off all power to the hot tub at the main breaker panel before opening the compartment for safety.
- Remove the equipment access door. You may need a screwdriver to remove a few screws or clips.
- Once inside, you will see a large metal or plastic box with several wires connected to it (pumps, heater, topside panel cable).
- Balboa Part Number: This is the most important number for finding compatible parts. It's usually a 5-digit number that starts with a "5" (e.g.,
5XXXXor5XXXX-XX). - Model Number: This indicates the system type (e.g.,
GS500Z,BP7,BP2000). - Serial Number: This is a unique number for warranty purposes.
- Chip Number / Chip Revision: There might be a small white sticker on a black chip on the circuit board itself with an alphanumeric number ending in a revision (e.g.,
R1A,REV.B). This number defines the software and is vital for compatibility.
