CoLd
: This code indicates that the temperature in the spa heater housing has dropped below 40°F (4°C). This is a concern because spa temperatures should never fall this low. As a result, the heater element's status is uncertain. To rectify this, the low-speed pump or circulation pump will operate continuously until the temperature rises above 45°F (7°C). Please note that a spa should not be filled with water below 40°F. A running pump can heat the spa at approximately 1/2 degree F/C per hour.
CoLd: Low Temperature Alert
  • The Issue: Water in the heater has dropped below 40°F (4°C).
  • What to do:
    • Wait: The circulation pump will run automatically to move water and prevent freezing.
    • Check Water: Ensure you aren't filling the spa with water colder than 40°F.
    • Monitor: Once the temperature reaches 45°F (7°C), the heater will resume normal operation.
OH (Overheat): This code is displayed when the spa temperature exceeds 108°F. SmarTouch does not support temperature settings above 104°F. If the spa temperature rises above this maximum, SmarTouch will display a flashing temperature between 105°F and 108°F. If the temperature exceeds 108°F, the OH message will be displayed instead of the temperature. The spa remains operational but is hotter than is safe for human use. Please refrain from using your spa when the temperature is flashing or the OH message is displayed.
OH: Overheat
  • The Issue: Spa water is between 105°F and 108°F.
  • What to do:
    • Stay Out: Do not enter the water.
    • Cool it down: Open the spa cover to let heat escape.
    • Check Environment: If it’s a hot day, the spa may be absorbing heat from the sun. The error will clear once the temperature drops below 104°F.

During the summer, especially in warm regions, ambient temperatures may be high enough to cause the spa to overheat naturally. Spas are typically well insulated and can store significant heat in the equipment compartment.

HLEr (Hi-Limit Over Heat): SmarTouch has a backup water temperature sensor known as the Hi-Limit. If this sensor is disconnected or shorted, or if the spa temperature exceeds 112°F, the Hi-Limit protection circuitry will shut down all spa functions and display the HLEr message. The spa cannot be used while this error is active, even after the temperature has dropped to an acceptable level or the sensor has been repaired/replaced. Once the error has been corrected, you must press the SET key to acknowledge that you, the spa user, are aware of the error condition and that the necessary repairs have been completed.

HLEr: Hi-Limit Overheat
  • The Issue: The water hit a dangerous 112°F, or the limit sensor is broken. The system has performed a safety shutdown.
  • What to do:
    • Cool the Water: Let the water temperature drop naturally.
    • Reset the System: This error will not clear on its own. Once the water is cool, you must press the SET key to acknowledge the error and restart the system.
    • Call for Service: If the message persists after a reset, the Hi-Limit sensor likely needs to be replaced.

SEoP: This code indicates that the sensor is open or disconnected, and SmarTouch cannot determine the spa temperature. The heater is disabled, but the spa remains operational. The sensor must be replaced or reconnected to clear this message.

SEoP / SESH: Sensor Errors
  • The Issue: The temperature sensor is either disconnected (SEoP) or short-circuited (SESH).
  • What to do:
    • Inspect Wiring: Check the sensor plug on the control board to ensure it is seated firmly.
    • Replace Sensor: If the wiring is fine but the code remains, the sensor is faulty and must be replaced.

SESH (Sensor Short): This code means that the sensor is shorted and nonfunctional. The temperature cannot be determined, the heater is disabled, but the spa remains operational. The sensor must be replaced to clear this message.

PSoC, PSoL, PSoH (Pressure Switch Open with Circulating, Low, or High pump(s)): These codes indicate that the pressure switch, a device sensitive to the pressure inside the heater manifold, is open. Pressure in the heater manifold is generated by a pump pushing water through the manifold. If a pump is running but the pressure switch detects no pressure, this indicates a lack of water flow. To prevent the heater from turning on when no water is flowing through it, the heater is turned off, and one of these messages is displayed, indicating which pump should be running.

PSoC / PSoL / PSoH: Pressure Switch Errors
  • The Issue: The pump is running, but the system doesn't detect water flow.
  • What to do:
    • Check Water Level: Ensure the water is high enough to cover the skimmer.
    • Clean Filters: Dirty filters can block flow. Try running the spa briefly without the filter to see if the code clears.
    • Fix Airlock: If you just refilled the spa, air might be trapped. Slightly loosen the heater or pump unions (large nuts) until you hear air hiss out and see water drip, then tighten them back up.
    • Professional Adjustment: If the flow is fine but the code persists, a technician may need to replace the pressure switch.

A pressure switch error may also occur if the switch is out of adjustment or if there is an airlock in the heater manifold. Adjusting the pressure switch should be left to a trained technician. An airlock can occur whenever the spa is drained and refilled with water, or if the water level in the spa is so low that the pump sucks in air. To bleed an airlock, loosen the top fittings a quarter of a turn at the pump discharge side. You will hear the sound of escaping air, then water will start dripping. Re-tighten the fitting. That can work if the air is in the pump, but you can also loosen the same-style nut on the heater where the sensor is, and it will detect the air pocket.

ToE (Time Out Error): This error is unlikely to be seen. It indicates that the system’s heartbeat is out of control, all devices will be shut down, and the spa is unusable. This message will rarely ever occur. If it does, please contact Applied Computer Controls.

ToE: Time Out Error
  • The Issue: A rare system software failure.
  • What to do:
    • Power Cycle: Turn the spa breaker off for 30 seconds and then back on.
    • Call for Help: If the code returns immediately, contact Applied Computer Controls as the circuit board likely requires repair.

 

To change settings on an Applied Computer Controls (ACC) spa topside panel, you primarily use the UPDOWN, and SET keys. The specific method depends on whether you are making a quick adjustment (like temperature) or entering the deeper programming menu for filtration and system behavior.
 
 
1. Adjusting Temperature
  • Access: Press and hold the UP (TEMP) arrow key for about 2 seconds until the display flashes the current set temperature.
  • Change: Use the UP or DOWN arrows to reach your desired temperature.
  • Save: Press the SET key to lock in the new temperature. If you don't press SET within 30 seconds, the change will not take effect.
     
 
2. Setting the Time of Day
  • Access: Press and hold the DOWN (TIME) arrow key for 2 seconds. The display will show the current time (default is 12:00 noon).
  • Change: Use the arrow keys to adjust the hours, then press SET. Repeat to adjust the minutes.
  • Save: Press SET after the final minute adjustment to lock it in.
     
 
3. Entering Programming Mode (Advanced Settings)
This menu allows you to change filtration periods (FP1 to FP4), durations, and other system parameters.
 
  1. Enter Menu: Press the SET and DOWN keys simultaneously. The code FP1 (Filter Period #1) should appear on the screen.
  2. Navigate: Use the UP and DOWN arrow keys to scroll through available parameters (e.g., FP1FP1dFP2).
  3. Edit Value: When you reach a setting you want to change, press SET. Use the arrow keys to change the value.
  4. Confirm: Press SET to lock in that specific value and return to the menu.
  5. Save & Exit: To save all changes, scroll until the word SEND appears and press SET. To exit without saving, scroll to CANC and press SET.
     
 
4. Common Quick Controls
  • Invert Display: To flip the temperature display (useful when viewing from inside or outside the tub), press SET and the UP arrow keys together.
  • Locking the Panel: Some models use a 10-second hold on specific buttons or specialized menu icons to lock/unlock the panel to prevent accidental changes.
  • Post-Use Filtration: Press the SET key after you finish using the spa to manually trigger a filtration cycle and instruct the system to resume automated management.
