The term “Frames” refers to the size of your pump motor, with all main spa pumps having either a 48 or a 56 frame size.

48-frame pump motors are 5.5" in diameter, with a bolt spacing of 3-5/8".
56-frame pump motors are typically 6.5" in diameter, with a bolt spacing of 4-1/4".

The voltage of the motor, not the voltage supplied to the spa, determines the correct pump voltage.

When removing the power cord from the existing pump, we recommend marking your wires for “common”, “high speed”, and “low speed”.
The connection diagram for the new pump is located on the motor nameplate.

Most motor wirings are simple, but sometimes the red wire is used at high speed - to fix this, just reverse black and red on the motor.

Ensure correct placement of the ground and “white” common wire - incorrect placement will cause the breaker to pop.

The wires have a top-to-bottom/left-to-right numbering system (G, C, H, L) (L1, L2, L3, L4), etc:

Green is “G” “L1” Ground
White is “C” “L2” Common
Black is “H” “L3” High Speed
Red is “L” “L4” Low speed

If you get high speed when you turn it on - reverse the black and red wires.

For wiring one-speed motors, use green for ground, white for common, and black for high speed.

Spa pumps come in a variety of shapes and sizes. To choose the right spa pump, consider the following four criteria:

Horsepower (Motor): The horsepower of your spa pump motor determines the force of your jets. More horsepower means more force. However, before purchasing a high-horsepower motor, ensure your control and electrical system can handle the increased power draw. If upgrading, it’s advisable not to increase your power by more than 1 HP.
Spa Pump Speed (Motor): Most spa pumps have two speeds, allowing you to adjust the amount of water being propelled. We offer both single-speed and two-speed pump motors.
Voltage (Motor): Spa pump motors come in either 115V or 230V. The voltage of your electrical outlet will determine which voltage option you should choose for your spa pump motor.
Discharge Position (Pump): Spa pumps can have either a center or side discharge. The position of the discharge component on your current spa pump will determine which type you should purchase.
Frame Size (Motor): Spa pumps come in either 48 or 56 frame sizes. The frame size refers to the size of your motor. A 48-frame motor is 5.5" in diameter, while a 56-frame motor is typically 6.5" in diameter.
The frame size can also be determined from the bolt spacing - a 48 frame has a spacing of 3-5/8", and a 56 frame has a spacing of 4-1/4". This will affect how easily the pump matches your current spa plumbing connections.
